Situation
Point of Sale (POS) systems, kiosks, and servers capture and transmit sensitive customer information. These distributed systems are often part of a network, and communicate with each other as well as externally to process customer credit card transactions. In addition, POS systems are often located in areas accessible to the public and are used by a variety of employees during the course of the day.

The combination of networked systems, sensitive data and an accessible environment make POS systems, servers and wireless networks prime targets for attackers. These criminals use methods that circumvent traditional security measures, including social engineering and attacks created specifically for the retail target. Since the attack method is unique, antivirus solutions will fail.

Solution
Savant provides the ability to lock down these systems and allow only the applications that are required to perform the Point of Sale functions to run. Once the device is locked down, Savant will not allow any unauthorized applications to execute. If a malicious application is introduced, it will not execute, protecting the retail system and customer data.
